How to make XP cool

Time passes too quickly! I’ve been working on dozens of websites. Well, not really, but it is starting to feel like it. I’m getting bored of working on websites now…

In other news, I got a new laptop! I’ve set up a wireless network at home now, so I’ve mostly migrated to using the laptop in my room, with an extra monitor, so I can have an extra wide desktop!

It’s my uber1337 desktop! Click it to see the image in full size.

I bet you all wonder how to make your desktop look as cool. Well, look no further, ‘cos I’m going to reveal all the secrets right here and now! (Note that I don’t take any responsibilities for any errors that may occur if you do something wrong. Also note that this only works in Windows XP. 2000, ME and 98 won’t work.)

uxtheme.dll multi patcher
This is the patch which makes it possible to change the XP look from this:

to this:

Just follow the instructions on that site to install the patch. NOTE: If Windows XP came with your computer, chances are that the XP installation files are on the hard drive. If that is the case, you’ll have to rename the folder which holds those files (usually c:i386), before applying the patch. If not, XP will just change uxtheme.dll back to the old version again immediately after it notices that it has changed. You can change the name back after the patch is installed!

ThemeXP
Here you can download Visual Styles to change the look on Windows XP! The patcher before just makes it possible to change the look, but it doesn’t come with any new looks. When you’ve downloaded a Visual Style, unpack it to c:WindowsResourcesThemes. Then go to Display Properties -> Appearance, and you should have the new look as one of the options besides “Windows Classic Style” and “Windows XP Style”. If not, go to c:WindowsResourcesThemes, and into the folder of the new style you downloaded, find a file with the extension “.msstyles”, and run it. Display Properties should pop up showing the new style. If not, you may have done something wrong when patching…

Hmm, there were a bunch of different things I wanted to write about too, but seeing how much text there already is, I’ll leave those for the next update! Stay tuned!

In other news, Fushigi Yuugi is indeed a very shoujo (“for girls”) anime. And why are most of the enemies strong enough to hold down all of the good guys, while there are only 4 out of 7 of the main good warriors who can actually fight? (The girl in the front in the image is not one of the warriors, she’s the priestess. Erh, the story will make sense if you don’t actually think about it.)

Check this out!

For those who haven’t noticed yet: I moved my website over to a new url (johan.tongxun.no) which is easier to remember! Neat or what? Since when I finish school, I won’t get to keep that other website, and besides, that url was too difficult. So this one is better!

It’s been really long since I updated, haven’t it? I guess that must mean I don’t really have that much to write. I was going to write about my dream with the characters from Rurouni Kenshin, but it is really not that interesting. Basically I was a friend of Kenshin and the gang, and I couldn’t catch up with them when they were running somewhere to fight some bad guys.

Kind of like this:

Except I’m the one who’s being left behind, and Yahiko is one of the persons running. And actually Sanosuke is not there, because he’s the bad guy, and he somehow has thunder powers, like Ginji in Get Backers. Hey, it’s a dream, it’s not as it is real life. (Uuuuh…)

Anyhow, this dream could mean one of two things:

  1. I need to do more exercise
  2. I need to watch less anime and manga

Hah, as if! I guess it has to be the third thing: 3. Don’t take dreams too serious. (Although, I will admit that exercise may not be such a bad idea. )
