A few weeks ago I came upon a nice little freeware game, called Cave Story (Doukutsu Monogatari in its original Japanese version). It’s a great Metroid-style game with roughly 4 hours playtime, but with enough secrets to make you play through it at least twice.

Click on the screenshot to download the game! If anyone tries this game and needs help with it, feel free to ask for hints.;) Other than that, those who want to know what I’ve been doing lately, can click “Read more” to find out.

I just got home from Oslo a week ago, where I’d spent my week because I didn’t have any lectures, and my first exam wasn’t before May 24th. It was quite fun in Oslo, I spent some time with the youth (or rather, teens) there. We played games, watched a movie, had a youth meeting and played ping pong/tabletennis. Oh, and I won in bowling! Not that it matters much since I just barely got over 100 points. Other than that I’ve also been studying for my first exam. Unfortunately I didn’t think of taking any pictures… Erh, instead I’ll just post a drawing I scanned while I was in Oslo.

I finished the second of my exams today, leaving only one exam left. Luckily, that one isn’t before June 11th, so I’ll get some time to gather myself a bit, maybe clean the house a little before moving out. Leon and me are moving out of our apartment in Trondheim this summer when we’re going back to Oslo. We’re moving back in to the same apartment in Trondheim after the summer break, but this way we don’t have to pay rent during summer, which is neat.

Ah, I’ve also tried a lot of interesting recipes. Actually, no, I’ve just tried a few interesting recipes, but I haven’t posted all of them here yet, so they’re on my todolist. Just today I made hash browns (potato cakes made of shredded potatoes), although they weren’t too successful. I didn’t take pictures of those either, so a recipe for it would be boring. Hum, maybe when I try making them again…

Lastly, I’ve been programming a bit. One of the things I’ve made is a MP3 Organizer, programmed in Java. The program looks through the playlists I have, and then looks through the MP3s I have, and shows the results in a grid table like in the screenshot. Then I can quickly see which songs are in which playlists, and which songs aren’t in any playlists. It even supports Unicode! It isn’t very configurable though, since I’ve programmed it to work for me.

Oh well, I’ll stop boring you now. Maybe I should try posting more often, rather than posting seldomly and with a lot of text…? But nah, noone bothers to read this anyway. Sometimes I’m not even sure if I want people to read this. *shrugs*

Anna cake!

./imgs/cellpics/chococake.jpg

This cake was made from a recipe Anna gave me! She called it “Kladdkaka”, though. The photo is from February, haven’t made it lately.

Anyhow, the recipe is:

  • 2 eggs
  • 2 dl sugar
  • 2,5 dl flour
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa (powder)
  • 200g butter
  1. Mix the eggs and sugar to eggnog (takes quite a while, use a mixer and let it stand for an hour or so). It’s finished when the sugar isn’t crunchy when you taste the eggnog mix. (Although I’ve never been patient enough to let it mix for so long.)
  2. Add the flour and cocoa through a sieve so there won’t be any clumps, while mixing by hand. Also melt the butter and add it in the mix.
  3. Pour the cake mix into some kind of cake form. I used a long form covered with baking paper, but you can use a normal round cake form too. Bake for about 30 minutes with 175°C heat on the center row.

Anna said the cake was to be baked for 5-7 minutes on 250°C, but my cake got burned, and when I looked up the recipe on internet, it said 175°C. I guess you could still try it if you don’t have time to let it bake for 30 minutes…

Anna also said that this cake doesn’t need icing, but as you can see from the photo, I did add icing on my cake. It’s mostly because the cake got burned though, so I wanted to put something on top to cover it a little.

In any case, the recipe for the icing I made was roughly:

  • 1 tsp cocoa
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 tsp water

I just melted the sugar in the water and added cocoa. However, this icing isn’t recommended, I just used it because I didn’t have icing sugar. Most likely you won’t need icing at all though, so just use this in case of emergency.

Wario where?

In March some time I bought Wario Ware Touched! for my Nintendo DS. It’s quite an interesting game which uses the touch screen to its fullest. You have to use the touch screen to cut vegetables, buy clothes, light the candles on a cake, pull out hair from the skin, thread a needle, and other exciting real life events. You sometimes even have to blow on your Nintendo DS to defeat enemies and keep a paperplane safe from biohazards like bugs and jumping fishes. The thing I’m least satisfied with is the fact that it didn’t take too long for me (and Leon) to play through all the “stages” in the game. At least I still haven’t found all the gifts in the game yet…

Other things that I’ve done since I last updated the website, roughly in the order I did them:

  • I went back to Oslo in Easter, and also went to the Easter camp arranged by the Chinese church there. (Photo gallery)
  • I’ve been practicing cooking curry, although I’m still not satisfied with it…
  • I finally finished Abe’s Oddysee! I got the game at least 5 years ago, but I couldn’t get past the first few stages… Then I decided to try it again this year.
  • I changed my WhatPulse avatar a little:
  • I got myself hearing aid, to see if it helps during conversations and lectures.
  • I finished one school project. Only 2-3 more to go! (Two more projects and possibly one essay to be handed in this month.)
  • Made muffins today! Pictures later.

I’m sure there are more things I’ve done, but these are the most significant things I can remember for now. Maybe I should get back to working on the school projects I’ve got left… *sadness*
