Stockholm, moving, Batman, Skyward Sword

I visited Yann and Gabriel in Stockholm in the beginning of November. Went to Gamex and tried out a bunch of games, was happy to try Skyward Sword and Super Mario 3D Land! Also Kirby’s Return to Dreamland, and various other games. Also we got to listen to a preview of the Gamer’s X-mas concert, lots of great video game music! Almost considered going to their concert the next weekend, but I was kinda tired of travelling by then, needed a break.

Batman 3D
I didn’t bother to try Batman: Arkham City since I was expecting to get it soon…

I’ve moved back to my old apartment now, missed living by myself! It’s great! And I got a copy of Batman: Arkham City shortly after moving, which kept me entertained for many evenings untill I got Zelda: Skyward Sword. Can finally play all evening without worrying about disturbing my brother’s homework. And the apartment doesn’t get messy shortly after I’ve cleaned it.

Although it took some time before it was cleaned up after moving.

I bought the Collector’s Edition of both games (Batman and Zelda), but according to Spaceworld they hadn’t gotten the shipment of Batman: Arkham City Collector’s Edition before now. So it’s on its way in the mail. But the webshop sent me a normal edition copy of Batman for me to borrow and also sent me a bunch of promotional stuff to compensate, quite good service! Unfortunately I’ve read online that there seems to be a bug in the XBox 360 version of Batman, where the savefile would randomly stop working, so I’m a bit too worried to keep playing the game now. But since I got Skyward Sword I’ve been playing that instead.

So, those two games plus the moving and unpacking and cleaning are the biggest reasons why it’s been more than a month since I updated. Though I did have some other activities too last month besides going to Stockholm.

For one it was my birthday, which I didn’t really celebrate much this year, just had a dinner and cake with my family. It was nice! Didn’t get so many gifts, but as you can see I already bought lots of stuff for myself so I’m happy. My parents gave me lots of stuff for the apartment too: a bigger bedquilt, new shower curtains and some furniture. Tina bought me a wooden cutting board, I try to cut down on plastic kitchen utensils now.

We had a party game and dinner day at church and also a sleepover weekend with A.L.I.V.E. at a church member’s house. Made cupcakes, played games and had fun together.

Buttercream topping was a bit too much for most of the A.L.I.V.E. members. Basically 100% margarine with some powdered/confectioner’s sugar and food coloring.

And I went to the Mission Training Weekend in Gothenburg, where we had some training on how to share our testimony with people. Met a lot of friends, ate the sushi buffet at Haiku Sushi (again). I think the consensus amongst my friends is that the sushi there is "all right", though not necessarily that impressive. The buffet is quite cheap in any case (in my opinion), costs almost the same as buying a medium sushi meal in Norway.

I think I’ll go play a bit more Skyward Sword before going to bed now. It’s is an amazing game, every time I play I have a hard time putting it down! Hmm so it’s probably a bad idea to start playing now. Oh well, it’s weekend. It’ll be fine. Probably.

Dinner with friends

This month I’ve spent a lot more time eating dinner with friends than usual! (Besides the dinner we have on our bible studies every week.)

Monday 3 weeks ago I went with some friends* to eat at the Italian restaurant Brunello near Oslo City. I ordered a Tagliatelle al pollo, which tasted quite good! And I got surprisingly full from it, possibly because it had lots of olive oil in it.

Then on the Friday after that I went with some other friends* to New Anarkali, an Indian restaurant. The medium+ strong Lamb Vindaloo and Keema Nan (nan bread with minced lamb meat) that I had for the main course was good! But the lemon drink (forgot the name) and the Kulfa (homemade Indian ice cream) was not quite to my liking. I think I’ll go for something safer for drink and dessert the next time I go to an Indian restaurant.

Thursday after that I invited some friends* that I hadn’t seen in a while to my house for dinner, and tried to make a steak, although I ended up overcooking it. It went better last time I made a steak since it was in the weekend and I was at home all day, so I could time my cooking better… Well it was nice seeing them and talking with them a little bit.

Then last weekend I had hotpot at a friend’s birthday party at our house, then steak at another friend’s housewarming party, and sausages and sushi on Sunday before going to the movies with A.L.I.V.E.. We ended up watching Drive, which was quite a bit more violent than we expected. Next time I should research the movies more before picking them.

Oh and tomorrow I’m going to Chinese restaurant Dinner with some friends*. I think I’ve been there before with some relatives, but it’ll be the first time there with friends in any case.

* Names intentionally left out in case some of them don’t like having their schedule posted out in public.

I didn’t take any photos from the dinners, so I’ll just, hmm, post this photo of my Batman pumpkin! The first pumpkin I’ve ever carved. Batman’s logo seemed to be an easy shape to make for a “beginner”, and I also made it kind of as a celebration of Arkham City’s release. Unfortunately my copy of the game has been delayed in the snailmail, so I haven’t gotten to play it yet…

Been playing a bit of Prince of Persia: Two Thrones instead, which I got of a Prince of Persia full pack sale on Steam some while ago. In this game I can also do silent takedowns and run on rooftops! So it’s almost like Arkham City! Except not as awesome. Still I guess the game isn’t as bad as I was afraid it might be, since most reviews I read before said that Warrior Within and Two Thrones aren’t as good as Sands of Time. I played the second game on the iPad BTW, which I regret slightly since it seems like the “true ending” was not possible to get in the iPad version. I just looked that ending up on YouTube in any case.

Got my second Sluggy Freelance Megatome in the mail today, yay! Got it used at Amazon, cheaper than the first one that I got at the actual Sluggy store. I did want to buy from the Sluggy store, to support the webcomic, but apparently they were all sold out of this book. Maybe I’ll consider buying some merchandise, but I try not to buy too much decorative stuff now since it just takes up space. I prefer things that I’m actually going to use for anything! Like reading.

Anyways, I really hope I’ll get the Batman game soon… Have been looking forward to playing it. *sigh*

Sluggy Freelance Megatome 01, Humble Bundle

I got my Sluggy Freelance Megatome 01 book! You can read almost all of it for free online so there’s no real need to buy the book. I did it partly to support the comic artist, and partly because I liked the story and the jokes, so I wanted to reread the comic from the beginning. And doing it in book form is a bit better than doing it on the screen again, or so I figured.

I also preordered a book from another webcomic that I recently started reading and liked, Edmund Finney’s Quest to Find the Meaning of Life, and I donated some money to Sandra and Woo. Yeah, I seem to keep throwing money around to support people/companies that I like. Other preorders I did include the Collector’s Edition of Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword and the Collector’s Edition of Batman: Arkham City.

Now that I think about it, I also applied as a monthly donator for Røde Kors (Red Cross in Norway), but I haven’t gotten anything in the mail from them yet. I’m sure it’s been a few weeks since I applied. I guess they don’t have the manpower to go through requests quickly?

humble

Oh, and I also bought/donated to the Humble Frozen Synapse Bundle, which at first only included Frozen Synapse, but now added two other games, Trauma and SpaceChem. (It also includes the previous Humble Bundle with Frozenbyte games if you give more than the average, currently 4.67USD. I already got that bundle when it was running though.) Both Frozen Synapse and SpaceChem are puzzle/strategy kind of games which seem simple enough through the tutorial, but which explodes with difficulty already in the first stages. (I might be exaggerating.) I did beat my brother twice in Frozen Synapse, though he hadn’t even played the tutorial yet so I’m not overly proud over that.

Trauma however is a simple point and click game a lot like many online flash games, although with a somewhat more serious story about a car accident victim. And life. I kind of like the mood in that game. The game is pretty short, but I haven’t found all the secrets yet. Might do that in the weekend. Anyways, the bundle is at the moment of writing still running for 7 more days, so you should get it while you have the chance!

Here’s a video of my solution in one of the stages in SpaceChem. Later I found out that I don’t really need to have the same shape on the molecules for them to be accepted, as long as the bonds were correct. Oh well.
