It’s a new year!

I spent my Christmas and New Years in Hong Kong this year too. Kind of nice to meet my family again, but this year I think I spent even less time travelling around Hong Kong than before. Partly because we live so far out on the countryside that going anywhere further than Sheung Shui and the few closest train stations is a hassle, but also because I feel like I’ve been most places already.

Cousins

Though this time we went to Taiwan, first time I’ve been there! And first time trying a hot spring, which was quite enjoyable!

I want one of these! Also a sauna.

This time I tried to not hesitate as much when shopping, trying to buy things if I thought I wanted or needed it. I think I was quite successful because after two weeks my luggage was already almost too full to close. Which made the last week of the trip kinda boring since I almost couldn’t buy anything anymore, so I almost didn’t bother going out.

I did buy more stuff after this.

I enjoyed building the Space Rail, kinda want to buy a bigger one! But after using it for a while, the rails started moving around making it not work so well, so I had to adjust it. I guess I didn’t build it well enough.

I also bought a PS Vita, originally for a friend, but I couldn’t find a cheap one and he didn’t want the kinda expensive one I bought, so I just kept it. It does have nice graphics! Though I don’t have any other games to play on it once I finish Uncharted: Golden Abyss. Maybe I’ll try creating a foreign PSN account and see if I can buy any games. But I’m still trying not to buy new games before I finish more of the ones I have at home. Oh, I did beat Arkham City, although I didn’t finish all the sidequests yet.

So many gadgets! The PS Vita is indeed bigger than the PSP.

I must say that after I got used to the 3DS, I always feel kinda disappointed playing games on flat monitor, even when playing TV or PC games. Although I do agree that the 3D on the 3DS isn’t all that good either, sometimes it’s not easy to keep the “sweet spot” for watching 3D, making the screen a blurry mess. I consider buying a Sony Personal 3D Viewer, which would completely eliminate the problem of crosstalk by putting a full 720p monitor in front of each eye. But it’s apparently more expensive than a cheap 3D TV and not nearly as sociable. And I’d probably get even more nearsighted. But it would give cinema-size 3D display without crosstalk! And I wouldn’t need to figure out what to do with my current HDTV, which is part of the reason why I haven’t bought a 3D TV already. Don’t want to throw it away so quickly, and having a TV in my room in addition to one in the living room seems a bit excessive. Oh well, I guess in the end I’ll just wait more… I’d have to buy a new PC to be able to play 3D content smoothly anyhows.

Speaking of 3D, I made a 3D video with the food photos I took in HK.

I got a new phone at work, the Samsung Galaxy Nexus! It is great, and now that I have free mobile data traffic from One Call, I can at any time surf the web when I want to lookup anything, which is really nice! I could surf the web with Acer Liquid, my previous Android phone too, but it was slow whenever I installed more than a few background apps, so I didn’t like using it as much. But the new phone is a lot more responsive. I don’t even use my iPad so much anymore, leaving it at home most of the time.

Nowadays I feel like I just want to stay at home more, and take a break from travelling… Maybe try and finish more of my games. Although I will be travelling next month too. Anyhows I should be heading to bed. I still suck at updating my blog with small updates instead of big updates. Oh well.

Sluggy Freelance Megatome 01, Humble Bundle

I got my Sluggy Freelance Megatome 01 book! You can read almost all of it for free online so there’s no real need to buy the book. I did it partly to support the comic artist, and partly because I liked the story and the jokes, so I wanted to reread the comic from the beginning. And doing it in book form is a bit better than doing it on the screen again, or so I figured.

I also preordered a book from another webcomic that I recently started reading and liked, Edmund Finney’s Quest to Find the Meaning of Life, and I donated some money to Sandra and Woo. Yeah, I seem to keep throwing money around to support people/companies that I like. Other preorders I did include the Collector’s Edition of Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword and the Collector’s Edition of Batman: Arkham City.

Now that I think about it, I also applied as a monthly donator for Røde Kors (Red Cross in Norway), but I haven’t gotten anything in the mail from them yet. I’m sure it’s been a few weeks since I applied. I guess they don’t have the manpower to go through requests quickly?

humble

Oh, and I also bought/donated to the Humble Frozen Synapse Bundle, which at first only included Frozen Synapse, but now added two other games, Trauma and SpaceChem. (It also includes the previous Humble Bundle with Frozenbyte games if you give more than the average, currently 4.67USD. I already got that bundle when it was running though.) Both Frozen Synapse and SpaceChem are puzzle/strategy kind of games which seem simple enough through the tutorial, but which explodes with difficulty already in the first stages. (I might be exaggerating.) I did beat my brother twice in Frozen Synapse, though he hadn’t even played the tutorial yet so I’m not overly proud over that.

Trauma however is a simple point and click game a lot like many online flash games, although with a somewhat more serious story about a car accident victim. And life. I kind of like the mood in that game. The game is pretty short, but I haven’t found all the secrets yet. Might do that in the weekend. Anyways, the bundle is at the moment of writing still running for 7 more days, so you should get it while you have the chance!

Here’s a video of my solution in one of the stages in SpaceChem. Later I found out that I don’t really need to have the same shape on the molecules for them to be accepted, as long as the bonds were correct. Oh well.

Bergen, Sjöbo and MegaZone

Went to Sjöbo (near Malmö in Sweden) last weekend, and to Bergen the weekend before that, to visit friends.

Bergen was nice, even though two of the people I was hoping to see in Bergen were working so I didn’t even get to see them. But met Hanfeng and Ivy, it was cozy walking around town with them I guess. And it was actually sunny that day, even though it is almost always raining in Bergen! In the evening we went to Ivy’s place and ended up just watching videos and eating a late dinner.

My father was driving to Bergen on Friday, it took 8 hours or so to get to Norheimsund where we stayed with some friends of my parents. It was a quiet place, but very beautiful! We left for Bergen on Saturday and stayed there most of Saturday before going back to Norheimsund to stay the night before leaving for Oslo on Sunday. Because Norheimsund is slightly closer to Oslo than Bergen, this saves some time, but still I think I’d prefer taking a flight next time I want to visit anyone in Bergen!

On my way to Sjöbo I stayed at Tizian’s place in Malmö. Don’t remember if I’ve stayed there once or twice before, but it’s been a while since last time! We left for Sjöbo on Saturday, to go to a party to say goodbye to Anna and Alexiz who were going to Japan to study. Even though I only met them once before, they were pretty fun to talk with, so I ended up going to their party to say goodbye! Unfortunately I left early because I had promised to go to MegaZone on Sunday, but it was fun while it lasted.

After taking the night bus back to Oslo I went home and slept before going to church with my brothers. After church we went to MegaZone (a place where you can play laser tag, kind of like LaserDome. They also have some other games like paintball). We played one round of laser tag, then tried out "GladiatorZ", which is some kind of activity center with a mechanical bull, an obstacle course, sumo suit wrestling and "giant Q-Tips" battle (I tried to find out what it’s actually called in English, but couldn’t find it).

My phone camera is so bad.

After MegaZone we ate at a Vietnamese restaurant. I had fried banana with ice cream for dessert. It was delicious!

Also I finally managed to find all the Gold Skulltulas and heart pieces in Zelda Ocarina of Time Master’s Quest, using a FAQ to find the rest of them because I had gotten so tired of running around the map multiple times. It’s kinda annoying how obvious some of the locations I missed were! Oh well, after that I started playing the first Legend of Zelda (the NES one) on the 3DS. It was as difficult as I recalled it to be, but after playing it a while I seem to have somewhat gotten the hang of it. I think I’m on the level-6 dungeon now, the one with the Wizzrobes.

Looking forward to Kirby Mass Attack‘s release in Europe! Also Batman: Arkham City.
